The timely training came through coordination with the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and the African Coalition for Sustainable Energy and Access (ACSEA), underscoring the importance of regional cooperation on this critical issue. climate change impacts like rising temperatures, water scarcity and extreme weather events pose significant threats to Egypt and the wider region.
NGOs are vital partners in driving climate action at community level, stated Ahmed Fathy, president of the youth love Egypt. This workshop aimed to empower them with the tools to conceive impactful projects and effectively make the case for funding international donors and development agencies.
Over the three intensive days, participants gained insights into every stage of the project design cycle, from conducting needs assessments and stakeholder mapping, to setting objectives, planning activities and developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks. A key focus was on crafting compelling proposals aligned with donor priorities and requirements.
Veteran trainers guided the participants through proven methodologies, best practices and pitfalls to avoid when developing climate adaptation projects with interactive sessions that allowed participants to apply learnings to their own project ideas and receive experts feedback.
Looking ahead, the “youth love Egypt” foundation plans to continue facilitating such capacity building initiatives to catalyze grassroots climate action across Egypt. By strengthening NGOs project design and resource mobilization capabilities, the goal is to unlock greater funding and implementation of adaptation solutions benefitting the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
Additionally, the foundation plans to carry out periodic evaluations and collect case studies highlighting the projects and proposals developed by participants following the workshop. This will allow them to quantify the increase in funding secured and adaptation interventions rolled out as a direct result of the capacity building efforts.
This workshop is a testament to the “youth love Egypt” foundation’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the capacities of civil society organizations in Egypt. By providing NGOs with the tools and knowledge needed to design impactful projects and secure funding, the foundation is playing a pivotal role in enhancing the country’s ability to adapt to climate change.
As climate change continues to pose significant challenges, particularly for vulnerable communities, initiatives like this workshop are crucial in ensuring that local organizations are well-equipped to develop and implement effective climate adaptation projects.
