Why Civil Society Must Be at the Heart of Mission 300

As part of the 2025 Annual General Assembly of the African Development Bank (AfDB), a high-level side event will take place under the theme:
“Why Civil Society Must Be at the Heart of Mission 300.”

Mission 300 is AfDB’s landmark initiative to dramatically expand energy access across Africa. As it aims to connect 300 million people to sustainable and modern energy solutions, the initiative holds immense potential to transform livelihoods, empower communities, and accelerate the continent’s development goals.

However, for Mission 300 to be truly inclusive, equitable, and transformative, civil society organizations (CSOs) must play a central role — not as spectators, but as co-creators and accountability partners.

What to Expect

This dynamic side event, co-hosted by:

• The African Coalition for Sustainable Energy and Access (ACSEA)

• The Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA)

• The Bank–Civil Society Coalition on Climate Change and Energy

will feature dialogue, strategic insight, and stakeholder engagement around:

• Civil society’s role in advancing Mission 300 through the Six30 Campaign

• Ensuring energy access strategies reach last-mile communities

• Promoting social equity, sustainability, and local ownership

• Exploring policy and financing mechanisms that drive real development outcomes

• Interactive exchanges between civil society, AfDB, World Bank, and other development partners

Why It Matters

Energy access is not just about electricity  it’s about empowering people, unlocking potential, and fostering climate-resilient futures. When civil society is meaningfully engaged, energy solutions become more just, transparent, and impactful.
