Engaging Civil Society in shaping Africa’s transformation and the Reform of the Global Financial Architecture

At the just-ended #AFDBAM2024 Side event, Dr. Augustine B Njamnshi, Chair of Technical and Political Affairs at the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and Executive Director of the African Coalition for Sustainable Energy and Access (ACSEA) emphasized the African Development Bank Group’s dedication to collaborating with Civil Society. He stressed the importance of inclusive development initiatives that resonate with the diverse needs and aspirations of the people. This collaboration enhances transparency, and accountability, and fosters openness in project implementation and financial management.

The event’s theme, “Engaging Civil Society in Shaping Africa’s Transformation and the Reforms of the Global Financial Architecture,” underscores the vital role of civil society in influencing policy decisions and ensuring accountability.

Dr. Njamnshi highlighted key focus areas:

✅ Climate Finance: Mobilizing resources to combat climate change.
✅ Energy Transition: Facilitating the transition to sustainable and renewable energy sources.
✅ Rechanneling of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs): Ensuring effective utilization of these resources to support development.
✅ Debt Sustainability: Addressing debt management for long-term economic stability.

Civil society organizations contribute invaluable insights and expertise, ensuring comprehensive and effective approaches to these challenges. Urgent and determined action is required to address these pressing issues, given the evident need for adaptation.
